3 Easy Tips to Reduce Bounce Rate for Better Customer Engagement

If you’re an online entrepreneur, you might have often analyzed your website’s performance with Google Analytics and there you’d have bumped against something called “bounce rate” for each landing page of your website.

What is bounce rate? Why is it so important? Why do businesses keenly focus on this parameter? Interested? Read further.

The discussion below would help you realize why bounce rate is significant, how it can improve website performance, and how to keep it low for enhanced traffic.

What is bounce rate?

Bounce rate is an all-important metric for measuring the success rate websites. Proven to be a trial-tested tool by 98% online businesses, this metric eases the job when formulating definite ideas on customer visits and website performance.

With such information, it is easier to estimate the total number of visits on one page, average time on site and page views, etc.

A high bounce rate (100% in Analytics) indicates less visitor engagement and low bounce rate (<40%) high. Simply put, keeping your bounce rate low is the key to improve the success rate of website online. Now, let’s have a quick look at 3 practical tips to improve your website’s high to low bounce rates. Tip #1: Landing page design and layout

60% Visitors don’t prefer visiting/staying on a page which is poorly designed. If visitors feel that the navigations and layout are unfriendly, they’ll leave the very page instantly.
A web page designed innovatively with
– Excellent UI
– High-resolution and relevant images
Engaging color schemes
– User-friendly navigations

It can impress visitors and can force them to stay glued to the page. With this system in place, lowering the bounce rate won’t be off-putting.

Tip #2: Fitting Content

70% Visitors leave a page that doesn’t have relevant and informative content.

Content is the quintessence of any web page as it provides the visitors with what they’re looking for and directs them to take necessary actions. Creative and engaging content with the right information can engage visitors to the landing page.

A few more additions that really stun visitors and interest them are:
– Relevant images about products/services
– Videos of the products/services offered
– Customer testimonial videos
– Call to action content

Tip #3: Page load speed

90% Visitors leave a page that loads too slowly and never visit the page again.

No visitor will stay on a page with ‘poor loading.’ Page load speed doesn’t just affect visitors but your search engine rankings as well.

According to Google, a page with loading issues will rank relatively lower on the search results compared to a page with quick loads.

Average web page loading time for desktops 2.45 and smartphones 5–7 seconds.
Improving page loads may help visitors engage better with web page.
– Minimize HTTP requests
– Minimize server response time
– Avoid text graphics
– Minimize DNS lookups
– Reduce image format
– Enable browser cache
– Optimize images
– Avoid inline JS and CSS optimized
– Avoid too many plugins

With these trial-tested tips, it won’t be difficult for any online entrepreneurs to bring down the bounce rate for improved visitor engagement and returns.

Bounce rate is a crucial aspect that shouts out the extent of user engagement that a site enjoys. Moreover, I've heard that it indirectly has an effect on SEO also! In case of online business sites, a high bounce rate means lost customers and potential buyers! The tips mentioned in the article are quite awesome and effective. The content part is something that is much influencing one! Relevant and high quality content and images will keep the visitors glued for sure! One more thing that many of us overlook is loading speed and performance related factors. A slow loading site turns visitors off. They'd often refrain from accessing those sites again. So, making use of the tips and optimizing page speed is something that can help get noticeable results. Good article. I found the link to it on Kingged. Arun

I have always maintained that bounce rate is determined by design layout of a site and the value for which the blog or site provides. These are crucial for lowering the bounce rate. The tips shared here are on track. Everything from the design, content, and color and checkout features of website should all be for the "customer" and not the blogger! I shared this comment in kingged.com - the content syndication and social marketing website where this post was found. Bounce rates plays major role in improving keyword rankings on Google as far as I've know. It's something that tells us about the user engagement of the site. There is no use of a guy visiting our site for 1 or 2 seconds. We gain nothing. Attractive design can really play an awesome game in reducing bounce rate. Weeks before , I installed a ' Related Posts' widget and it reduced my bounce rate from 78% to 54%. I also agree with all your tips. Apart from that , removing pop ups and making sidebar clean without many ads can also help. Above all , Content is the real man deciding the bounce rate. Recently , I happen to drive into Backlinko.com and I couldn't get out of their without reading all the content there. So , Content is the real hero . Good article. Found this on kingged.com

The very first thing that any visitor noticed on a website is its design, so design is the most crucial factors in reducing bounce rate. Website design should be relevant and attractive too, so that readers enjoy staying at your page. That's the reason why every blogger and webmaster should prefer responsive site design for better appearance on every kind of device. Secondly page load is also the important factor, as if your page is taking too much time to load, users will surely close the tab and will move to some other webpage. Thirdly, I think titles and headings of the content are much important to keep a user to stay on the page for longer time period. Eye catcher heading will force the user to read the full content and thus it will decrease the bounce rate for your pages.

I've found you'll get different bounce rate figures depending on the service. All In One SEO has a different figure for my site than does Alexa. Each has their own definition for "bounce rate." All In one SEO defines it as only viewing one page. One technique I use that is supposed to increase the time a reader stays, is the use of internal links. Appropriate words in your post that link to another post. I have well over 500 internal links in total.
