One of the things I always have handy in my SEO toolbox is a SERP checker.
These tools relieve some of the boredom caused by endlessly repeating manual analysis and they also save plenty of time when working out how keywords affect my page rankings.
Market Samurai Rank Tracker
Firstly, I’m looking at Market Samurai Rank Tracker. Part of a family of paid-for products, it has earned a good reputation in SEO circles. You can enter an unlimited number of keywords, and see where your pages rank on Google up to the 1,000th result. It also allows the results to be broken down by country, and offers a charting feature that allows you to track the changes to your sites ranking over time. While its features are certainly impressive, the cost may put off the casual or infrequent user.
SEO Chat
The next one up is the equivalent tool from SEO Chat. It is web based, and free to use. The interface is simple, requiring only that you enter your domain name and any keywords or a phrase that you want to check. Results then come back very quickly, telling you where in the search engine rankings your site appears.
Easy SEO Tracking
Finally, I took a look at my Google SERP Checker tool. Free version of this, which as well as telling me the page position allowed me to compare positions of my sites with others and save historical data to show how the position in Google changed over time.
The paid for version, which is still pretty cheap, goes a step further by allowing tracking of all keywords and providing daily reports. The output of this web based tool is pretty easy to follow, with a simple table consisting of three columns – the keywords entered, the ranking of my site, and the ranking of the competitors’ site.
Summary
There’s only one real way to find out which is the right tool for you, and that’s to try them out. Give each of them a go with your keywords and websites and choose the one that suits your needs best.
