Apple launched the much awaited ipad mini, the 7.9 inch tablet in its biggest product move since the debut of ipad two years ago. The mini launch is a direct take to dent in to the market share of Google’s Nexus and Amazon’s Kindle.
We had blogged last week about the rumored ipad mini launch, alongwith a prototype of the device. The prototype is very near to the real ipad mini launched. We also blogged about the price of the device approx $300 which a lot of readers found expensive (you can check out the comments on the post ).
Apple has priced the mini at $329 for a 16 GB wi-fi model while the 32 GB wi-fi model will be priced at $429 and 64 GB at $529. The ipad mini models will start to ship from November 2nd. Apple has already sold over 100 million ipad units in the last 2.5 years.
Despite the high pricing (Google Nexus 7 retails at $199 for a 8 GB model, Kindle Fire HD retails at $199 for a 16 GB model and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) retails ate $249 for a 8 GB model) Apple expects to sell more than 10 million ipad minis by the end of the year. Apple also expects to double the size of the market for 7 inch tablets this year to about 34 million units.
The 7.9 inch device marks Apple’s first shot in the small tablet market space. Have you book your ipad mini ? What are your thoughts, will the mini fight the Nexus and Kindle ?
