We’ve all been happy when we get a raise, and sad when we have to pay our monthly bills. So does money make us happy ? Does having more money lead to being happy ? There have been various studies to find the co-relation of money and happiness but is happiness the key to life or money the key to all happiness.
By spending more money on non materialistic things allow you to experience more incremental joys of life. Here is a great talk by Elizabeth Dunn that explains the relationship between money and happiness. She calls it the weak relationship, a sudden increase in money can lead to less joy.
Her experiment show that true happiness is when you spend you money on the betterment of other rather than yourself. And this is not only a result of people living in developed countries, the studies show that it’s the same across the globe.
Whether you are in Canada or Uganda, true happiness is spending money on other people. Our previous Good Morning Sunday Post with Micheal Norton showed similar findings about Money and Happiness.
