Good Morning Sunday: If you don’t like your Results, Change your Approach

One of my favorite business stories is about a manager struggling to pay his bills, so he decides to get some advise from a financial expert.

He takes an appointment with a well respected, high profile financial advisor whose office is located in a swanky building on Park Avenue.

The manager enters the advisor’s swank office, but instead of a receptionist, the manager is greeted by two doors, one marked “employed” the other “self employed”.

He enters the door marked “employed” and is greeted by two more doors, one marked “makes less than $40,000 a year” and the other “makes more than $40,000 a year”.

He makes less than $40,000 a year so he enters that door, only to find himself face to face with two more doors. The door on the left is marked “saves more than $2000 a year” and the one on the right is marked “saves less than $2000 a year”

The manager only has about a thousand dollars in savings, so he enters the door on the right – only to find himself right back on Park Avenue.

The Same Doors Lead To The Same Results

The moral of the story is that most of us are like the manager who choose to enter the doors of life that lead them right back to where they started. The only way to get different results is to choose to enter different doors.

If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always gotten

If you want different results, change your approach, change your thinking.

Have a Super Sunday and a Great Week Ahead 🙂

I've heard this before, but it's still fundamental and very good advice.

That was a very good story. I completely agree with you ZK, if we just keep doing everything with done they way we do we just keep getting the same results. Often we even try to put the blame on others when things don't go the way we want them to, forgetting to check and see if there's something that we could've done differently to get a much better result. It's a new year, a good time for change. Perhaps if we tried harder, we'll get to the place we want to be.

Great story, and it is true to life. This story compliments the Chinese proverb "as you think, so you are".

Sometimes we think we are changing our thinking but we aren't. That's why we need advice from others. Hopefully a better consulting firm than the one in the anecdote!

What an amazing story to illustrate a point which we often forget. That was a really cool posting.
