What would the world look like if we designed for generosity and not for selfishness ? What if people gave back to society, things that they never would need or use without any selfish motives ? What is the force that would inspire people to give away ?
Watch the below TED video (18 short minutes and awesome) by Nipun Mehta, he talks about a concept called “Giftivism”, defined as a “practice of radical generous acts that change the world”. The act of paying it forward, the act of giving to society without any selfish motives.
He gives various examples of Giftivisms’s in his talk, one such example is about a restaurant called Karma Kitchen in Washington, DC where you eat a meal and receive a bill of “0” amount. You pay no money for your meal. How come its “free” ? because people before you have already paid for the meal. A very powerful concept that runs the business model of a restaurant and gives back to society. And runs on word of mouth. There are numerous examples in the talk of paying it forward.
We are all selfish by nature and that’s is the reason the world is designed. Nipun explores the possibility of it being a flawed assumption. What if people are not selfish by nature, would this world be a better place ?
Help spread the concept of “Giftivism”. Pay it forward and watch it come back to you in abundance.
Have a Super Sunday and a great week ahead 🙂
