Google launches Safe Browsing Diagnostic Tool

To protect web users from malacious web pages Google recently announced the release of a safe browsing diagnostic tool. With this tool Google has taken safe level browsing to the next level, they have build large scale infrastructure to automatically determine if web pages pose a risk to users.  To use the tool, just append a URL to the end of http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=.

To test this site, you would enter http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=http://www.WebTrafficROI.com/. Google will then return four sets of security information about that page.

The Google safe browsing diagonstic tool is structued into four different categories :

(1) The current listing status of a site and information on how often a site or parts of it were listed in the past.

(2) The last time Google analyzed the page, when it was last malicious, what kind of malware Google encountered and details of the page.

 (3) Did the site facilitated the distribution of malicious software in the past?

 (4) Has the site has hosted malicious software in the past?

Google has shown an example of a site that has malicious results. To see the results, click over here, it is safe to click the link ( its provided by Gooogle as an example ).  In case you don’t want to click the link I’ve uploaded a screen shot at the begining of the post.

Google has been increasingly pressing the security issue for good. They should have a badge for safe site for the publishers to display on their site.

Thats a very valid point Amit, they have not been able to combat with malicious sites or even spam related blogs. The safe diagnotic tool may be the answer to fighting such sites

That's a really good addition for Google - really useful. Google never ceases to amaze me. So Google does well at detecting malware on sites then? Does this do more than a security system?

A very proactive effort on Google's part to address the security issues that has been continuously posing a threat to everyone. This should keep malware or harmful programs at a minimum, or at the very least, at a reduced risk rate. Thanks!

Google is doing a good job at identifying sites with malware. I only wish they could eradicate all sites quickly. I got hit about six months ago visiting a malware site. I was using avg, and it did not catch the virus. I had to reformat my computer. :(
