This morning Google rolled out a new Page Rank (PR) update, the last one was in December 2010. Each time Google does a Page Rank update it causes a lot of grief to bloggers and web owners. I was particularly worried about this page rank update, as a lot of top blogs and sites were affected by the recent Google Panda roll out in February 2011.
There is no doubt that Google is on a clean up mission. They want to clean up their search results to ensure relevancy. The successful roll out of Panda ( named after Google’s software engineer Navneet Panda, who has done some awesome work on machine learning algorithms ) ensured that the stepping stone to this mission was rightly placed. The Page Rank for this blog and my other blogs and sites have not changed…Phew 🙂
The tough task now begins for bloggers and webmasters to ensure that their blogs and sites are kept relevant based on Google’s “Panda” algorithmic changes . The next PR update will be crucial, my guess is that sites that don’t adhere to the Google Panda guidelines will be penalized in Page Rank and in search results.
This Page Rank update also enforced the fact that Google still values Page Rank though it may not make any significant difference to your blog’s traffic or search results.
What are your thoughts on Page Rank ? I think the time has come for Google to kill Page Rank.
