How To Get Backlinks – The Advanced Way

Get backlinks in a variety of methods that actually work and produce results in the search engines. These tips will help your link building ventures tremendously.

If there is one thing that is true in boosting your rankings in the search engines, it can be true to say that you can NEVER have enough backlinks. More importantly, you want to get quality backlinks. In order to do this you will need to use a variety of ways in order to either link bait, or get quality backlinks. First of all, this isn’t going to be an article on article marketing, blog commenting, forum post, etc. (I am assuming you already know those tactics).

However, people always seem to be overly concerned with getting a ton of backlinks rather than several hundred authority backlinks. I do a lot of seo work, for sites I own, and have even done them for clients too. One thing that I want you to understand if you learn anything from this article is relevancy is the most important aspect for getting good links that will really impact your search engines rankings. But, how do you get backlinks?

Advanced Google Search

Here is what I do when I am trying to get backlinks. I will use a variety of Google advanced searches, in order to find relevant sites to obtain backlinks from. Now, before I begin, you must either have SEO for Firefox or SEOquake installed; I use both, just because I am crazy like that! You too can be crazy like me, if you want.

Type these into Google:

intitle:”keywords”
inurl: “keywords”
{keywords} “guest blogger” or {keywords} “become a contributor”, or even {keywords} “write for us”

Intitle is great because if their keywords are in their title you really need a link from that page. Google will love you for it. This could be anything from blog posting there, to sending them a carefully thought out message (where you provide them something of value for a link from that page). Remember it has to be something of “real” value in order to get a backlink from them.

Inurl is another great one because Google takes special notice, and sees that your pages are related. Again, you can use the same method above to get a nice juicy backlink from their site. Just remember to be respectful, because no one wants to just give out freebies!

Guest blogging is excellent, or even contributing your valuable content to other authority sites. This is where that SEO for Firefox or SEOquake comes in. I don’t care what anyone else says, but I look at the traffic value or a site to determine if they are a good prospect. That and I take note on how many pages are links to them, edu and gov, Yahoo directory, DMOZ, Business.com, Botw.org, and lastly pagerank. You can then write a guest post with your keywords in the title and url, along with bolding them and italicizing them throughout the article. Not too much though 🙂

Favorite Way To Get Backlinks

This is my favorite method of getting backlinks, though. Contact, a bunch of relevant sites through their contact page. Be sure to use their name and everything. Basically, state in the subject that you want to write an article for their website. In the body be as direct as possible, using their name and everything.

State that you have a couple good ideas on what to write about, and would like their feedback on something they might feel their site lacks too. You will be much more apt to getting a response if you put some real thought into it. I typically dedicate 3-4 days emailing everyone and keeping a log file in Excel, to keep tabs on who I have gotten in contact with. My method is I contact them once every 2 weeks, three times to see if I can get a backlink from them. Don’t make the mistake of annoying the crap out of them in order to get a backlinks; this would be counter productive.

Take it one step further and ask for references and sitewide links from their webpage. Don’t be afraid to wheel in deal to get your backlinks. For example, if I write 5 more quality articles for your site, would you consider giving me a sitewide backlink to my website?

Boosting yourself up in Google isn’t really that hard just takes persistence. You never know who you will come in contact with, and that is why I actually love building backlinks! It’s kinds of like a video game for me. Following these juicy tips should really help you in your link building efforts. Go ahead and try them out 🙂

Hey Jean, Excellent question. Really it is about 20%, but these are high authoritative sites that will produce real results. Not to mention other sites in your niche will see your site and link to you, as well as a number of good referrals :) Garen

Great tips Garen. These strategies would be sure to produce quality links instead of just a large amount of junk links. Those kinds of links are worth so much more. Plus you are bound to get some direct traffic too.
Garen @ Get Backlinks February 1, 2011 - 2:46 pm
Not to mention they will tweet about it and share on their social networks. More often than not, they will share a couple articles on your site too, which bring more quality backlinks :) Great way to network!

Yes I could definitely see this strategy going viral. As you establish yourself as a guest blogger it would become easier and easier to land other guest blogging opportunities. People would also start to recognize your name and be more compelled to check out your website.

Google is not only the leading website when it comes to finding info, is also the one of the first in searching for link and your use of operators and modifiers definitely shows this. As for the second method, if you have lots of people responding to your request all wanting from 2-5 articles for their website, wouldn't that flood you with work? Also, not all people play fair. What if they take your articles and then remove your links?
Garen @ Get Backlinks February 1, 2011 - 6:58 pm
True we have to go by Google's rules and they run the game so it is their call. It is a good idea to have a handful of good quality articles done so that you distribute them when you start getting contacts. Haven't had anyone not provide me with a link in 2 years though. You are providing them with good content.

Great tips, I am fore sure going to try out searching as you recommend, but being a writer in a nice area, it is sometimes difficult to find good quality places, where you can somehow get a link. I although must say I have not yet tried guest blogging yet, so that might be the way to go. Regards, Morten

Seriously, try it! Probably another one of my favs. You meet new people and get new ideas. Sometimes it is crazy the amount of networking you can do from guest blog posting.

Nice tips, I just started using TheHoth for a couple campaigns and so far I've been really happy. This isn't a shameless plug as I have no affiliation with them - but I ordered a package for "Web Design Jobs" and so far so good, I've jumped from page 20 to page 3 in about 4 days. Just ordered another package for 8iFY too.

Very good tutorial. I find it great to improve my search results. When I'm looking for academic content it's very useful to use these operators. But from time to time Google is going to add some more and deletes some old. Thats why you have to stay tuned for the latest ones. Another article just introduced some more operators providing useful videos: http://geekroom.de/how-to/google-optimal-nutzen-features-fur-bessere-ergebnisse/ But compared to blekko Google cannot sort the results - damn. I hope this will come to Google, too soon...

If you believe you have the good content, and it's a blog you're trying to promote, you may want to try linking to other blogs and Web sites. Hand out a favour to them, and they will hand one back.

These are good suggestions but instead of asking for a sitewide link, except I'm not crazy about the idea of asking for a sitewide link - I'd rather see if they have any other websites/partners I could post on or something else...I'm just not big on sitewide links. Great post in any case.

I'm really not a fan of automated link building schemes. I just think links should be placed for editorial value or manually sourced in the very least i order to ensure quality and relevance.
