A new Nike commercial featuring Tiger Woods has been on air since last night, the new Nike ad appears to be Tiger’s deceased father – Earl Woods voice in the background. Earl’s voice appears to be scolding Tiger from the grave.
During the 30 second ad Earl says, ” I want to find out what your thinking was, I want to find out what your feelings are, and did you learn anything”, while Tiger just stands in front of the camera emotionless wearing a Nike cap.
Is the voice of Tiger Woods’ deceased father in the Nike commercial a piece of marketing brilliance or just a gimmick to distance the number one golfer from the recent
scandal ?
I think is a good strategy to move the story beyond Tiger Woods’ extramarital affairs, which had dominated the media for months. What are your thoughts ? Do you think other brands like Accenture that Tiger endorsed will follow a similar marketing strategy ?
