Will you be there for the Twitter Festival in your city ( Twestival 2009 )

Changing the World, One Tweet at a time.

On Thursday February 12, 185 cities around the world will be hosting Twestivals which bring together Twitter communities all over the world for an evening of fun and to raise money and awareness for charity: water.

The Toronto Twestival will take place from 7:00pm at CiRCA, 126 John St, Toronto. Tickets are only $10 and the funds go directly to charity: water, a worthy cause. Microsoft has joined the fun as a Gold Partner for Twestival. offered to give away a free HP Mini 8.9 ” Netbook FREE with Microsoft and #TwestivalTO when you register for the Microsoft Partner Program.

I hope to see all of you at the Toronto Twestival community on February 12. Check out Twestival.com to find the location of the Twestival.com in your city.

Why Charity Water?

Charity: water is a non profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. They give 100% of the money raised to direct project costs, funding sustainable clean water solutions in areas of greatest need. Just $20 can give one person in a developing nation clean water for 20 years.

Right now, 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us. Many communities in developing nations often have a plentiful supply of clean drinking water just below the ground, but no way to get to it.

This is where charity: water and their partner organizations come in. Drilling a well can cost from $4,000 – $12,000 USD and many living on less than $1 a day cannot afford one in their community, even if the money is combined.

Twitter is a great example of how communities around the globe can get together to impact the world. An event like this spanning across the globe would have probably taken a few months to plan. Twitter made it possible to organize an event of this magnitude in less than a few days, with support from local Twittersphere.

2009 is the year where Twitter will experience a massive growth in traffic and if you are not on Twitter you ll be missing big time. Follow me on Twitter

Twitter Festival :) They've hit the big time. The question is: how are they going to monetize their site. As of now it must be costing them a bit to run it without ads. Gennaros last blog post..Hawaii Hotels Empty: Deals?

No one working on Twestival is getting paid, everyone is fitting in the organisation of the events around their jobs and other commitments; to me, the enthusiasm and dedication to make every city Twestival a success, is a clear demonstration of the power a social network like Twitter has to mobilise a group of people into action.
