Talk of disruption.
Twitter looks to be going disruptive and making changes that have been core to their product and brand. Twitter broke the traditional way of communicating when they launched they 140 character tweet limit.
Twitter users changed their behavior to adapt to communicating within the 140 character limit. I am twitter addict and I love tweeting in 140 character limit – Keeping tweets Short and Sweet. And relevant.
Over the last few years critics and tech experts have argued that the limit should be expanded to more than 140 characters, products like OneShot (a third party app) has already implemented this feature. OneShot helps users to tweet blocks of text which are more than 140 characters(actually images, not tweets).
Twitter has been pushing their product teams very hard to get the product mix right, they’ve made some significant changes to their product experience and analytics. The change to move beyond 140 character will be a big shift for the company.
As of now, its not clear how the new tweet would be, will they have a different character limit for images ? Will remove the character limit for handles?
Although I am not in favor of increasing the 140 character limit for tweets, I am eager to see this change happen on Twitter.
We’ll have to wait and watch.
