ComScore just released its worldwide numbers for April 2009 on top social media sites and their traffic details. As per the above chart and web traffic numbers the little guy named Twitter is no more the little guy on the internet.
Twitter has been experiencing exponential growth since the last three months, from 10 million monthly unique visitors wordwide to it’s site in Feb 2009 it raced to 32 million in April 2009, up from 19 million in March 2009. As per the report Twitter’s US visitors alone reached 17 million in April 2009.
What does this exponential growth mean for big and establish players on the web ?
Twitter has just passed Digg (23 million), NYTimes.com (17.5 million) and LinkedIn (16 million) in monthly unique visitors, as counted by comScore. And comScore only measures the number of people who visit Twitter’s Website, not the millions more who send and read tweets via their phones, desktop apps, or other Websites.
Twitter.com is also now bigger than Bebo and Freindster, who is it going to surpass in the coming months ?
If Twitter can keep adding 10 million global visitors a month, it will easily pass 50 million this summer and 100 million by the end of the year.
