What does Larry Page Think about Twitter ?

Twitter’s exponential growth has had big brother Google lose sleep over its inability to index real time search results. Its not only the big wigs at Google who are worried about Twitters growth but also its founder Larry Page is worried about Google’s inability on real time searches. No wonder it pitched hard to buy Twitter.

What does Larry Page Think about Twitter ?
“I have always thought we needed to index the web every second to allow real time search. At first, my team laughed and did not believe me. Now they know they have to do it. Not everybody needs sub-second indexing but people are getting pretty excited about real time.”

Google has just posted the full video of Larry Page comments on Twitter which you can find at 19:08 (this link will take you directly to these comments) , the transcript of the conversation is below :

Can you comment on the growth of Twitter and Google plans to integrate real time?

“people really want to stuff real time and they (twitter) have done a really good job about. We have done a relatively poor job of doing things that work on a per second basis. I have been telling our search team that they need to search on a per second basis. They laughed at me and said it’s ok it’s just a few minutes old.

I said “no” it needs to be every second. Now I think they understand that. I think we will do a better job at some of those things now that we have these examples. It does take time to really integrate information. If you really want up to the second information it is not going to be as good as if you wait up to a couple of minutes. That’s an important aspect of what’s going on, you need to make people get sense of things. I am not sure everybody needs to see stuff every second, I am not sure that’s the right model either.”

Hi Terry, Twitter is a growing threat to Google no doubt about it, to add to the growth its got a great value proposition in its product - the ability to show real time searches. The search giant Google is in a fix on this one, the dynamics of search is going to change in the next six months. Its going to be exciting times in search marketing :) Web Marketing Blogs last blog post..What does Larry Page Think about Twitter ?

Yup, that's why Google is so keen on getting its hand on Twitter. My only qualm about the big T (lol) is its perceived lack of protection. It's been hacked several times already. Also, they have to do a better job at keeping spammers at bay. And we all know there's a lot of spam on Twitter right now.
Web Marketing Blog May 28, 2009 - 9:37 am
You are right, Twitter needs to invest in infrastructure for a faster experience and to keep hackers at away. I am sure they are working on this two things. Hopefully we ll see a better Twitter experience soon :) Web Marketing Blogs last blog post..What does Larry Page Think about Twitter ?

I do not know what is happening about twitter but the whole world of webmaster is talking about this and want to capitalise the benefit of twitter before it disappear like other old options. Now you can imagine yourself that twitter become so big that Larry Page started to give a serious though about them.

Yes, Twitter's business model is somewhat more 'real-time'. Twitter is better than Google in this aspect. Larry correctly points out this..!

If I worked for Larry Page I would not be happy. He throws his research team under the bus for not listening to him about up-to-the-second updates and then backpeddles into a concession that those updates are not that important. He has more money than God so he can do whatever he wants but suddenly that dream job in Mountain View seems more like a nightmare

I think the result of using Twitter to stay connected with friends, relatives, and coworkers is that you have a sense of what folks are up to but you are not expected to respond to any updates unless you want to. This means you can step in and out of the flow of information as it suits you and it never queues up with increasing demand of your attention.

I found this twitter page while I was bored looking around on Twitter that isn't obvious with his photo or name and a friend got access, but I haven't and she says it's him she thinks because of his name but his profile isn't his name, so I was wondering if it could be him or not. It's private so I can't get in and the profile pic is a beer on a table with a glass or something.

Real time search is extremely interesting for news and live stream / feeds.I can’t imagine that I get 17,980,093 web sites results, and i wait for 30 second to see that 5 additional sites are added, it is overloaded as it is.This is why i got addicted (but i’m not objective) to the Qwiji (www.qwiji.com) search results presentation, instead of trying to decide which result is best for my needs i simply flip through the pages. It’s FUN.Thanks for the update!!

Competition is good, as it forces everybody to work so much harder towards delivering products that appeal to the end users. How much resources will it take to present an effective real time offering though?

Nice info ZK, As we can see, Twitter is a fast growing network. It's getting onto top positions in visitors and usage. previously it was only G to dominate other sources. and we can see G tries to acquire the popular sites :)
Dmanes November 21, 2010 - 1:56 pm
twitter is growing rapidly, getting more visitors by the day - but google is bigger and more powerful, with the ability to engulf them if they wanted to.
