What You Can Learn from Harry Potter about Affiliate Marketing Success

I just got an email from Robin Sharma, the known leadership guru and the author of 15 books –  “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari” (sold 3 million copies already) and “The Leader Who Had No Title” (my favorite), to mention two of his most known works.

This guy is all about mastery, peak performance (like Tony Robbins), excellence and crafting an iconic life. He teaches clients how to do the impossible. He recently shared with his subscribers an interesting story that we can all ponder about and learn from.

It’s the story of somebody who dreamed to write, but not many believed in her.

It’s the story of a single and struggling mom who got a big idea on a train trip.

About the story of a young wizard boy and his adventures…

12 publishers rejected her idea, until one small house called Bloomsbury Press eventually said YES, we’re going to publish it, but we think you’ll not make much money with a children’s book series.

Despite all odds, the book sold 450 million copies worldwide, and generated a fortune.

JK Rowling and her Harry Potter story touched the hearts of millions of kids and parents all over the globe. One small idea turned into an inspiring books series. Isn’t this exciting?

How this applies for affiliate marketing?

Your brain holds the BIGGEST secret to making money online. Exercise your imagination and train your mind to benefit you, instead of working against you.

You have to believe in yourself….

When I started online more than 10 years ago, I had no site building skills, I couldn’t write well – and I lacked knowledge in the industry. This didn’t stop me from learning the basics of “the techie” side of the business, and know what to say to my outsource guys to build me more sites.

You have to create your own dreams (some call it luck)…

I don’t believe in luck, but in recognizing opportunities and fructifying them. Be open to think and behave differently than you have in the past, otherwise we’ll do what Einstein said about a century ago – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is just insanity.

I know how powerful thoughts are. I often say to myself that I’m the only one responsible for both my success and failures – not others, not the government, not religion. I know I cannot change things that cannot be changed, but I have the power in my hands to tap into a brighter future… don’t you think this is possible for anyone, including you?

You have to listen to your gut instinct and follow nobody…

If I had of listened to folks around me saying to quit the Internet and secure a JOB, or not pursue this project or that project – I’d probably have lost the major opportunity to write this article (like many others) and inspire people from all over the globe to start their affiliate marketing business (and build a niche site empire).

I knew a simple truth: doing what makes me happy and what I’m capable of is the key to success and true happiness. I can do anything if I really put my mind into it, by the way – and so can you!

Mastermind often, with the right crowd…

You have to team up with like minded individuals who know more than you do, and earn more than you do – so you can learn from the best, and not spend time with victims or naysayers.

What holds you back when it comes to affiliate marketing: is it money, time, skills, passion or lack of knowledge?

What’s your affiliate game plan for the next 30 days… 3 months… 2 years?

How do you see yourself evolve from where you are now, to where you want to be?

Answer these questions right now. In fact, take pen and paper and be true to yourself, don’t lie to yourself like the majority of affiliates do. Now is the day when you say to yourself, I have had enough with all the BS!

“I am a super affiliate in the making, and success is a journey. Failure is part of the game. I’m happy and free to live my dream, right here, right now!”

Say this to yourself 3 times a day… even better, write this down each and every morning, and once more before you go to sleep. Your subconscious mind will register this mantra, and just by repeating it consistently, you’ll start to believe and live it.

Isn’t it preferable to believe that you’re capable of doing big things, impossible things (like the Harry Potter idea), instead of hopelessly complaining about bad luck or fear of failure?

I wish I could get my entire family to read this article and understand it like I do. I've been plugging away with my affiliate business for years, not making anything (seriously I've made maybe a few hundred) and yet here I am everyday working at it with all I've got. Why? Because its lack of knowledge that has stopped me. I know that, that's why I'm always trying new things (but not giving up on things just because they don't work the first time). What if Miss Rowling had given up after the 9th or even the 12th publisher? I believe my entire family has told me "Well your not making any money doing it, so why don't you just quit?" Dreams aren't something you give up on. You can fail a million times, but you only have to make it once.

hi Rew what a wonderful reply you've written! I know how it feels like to not have the support of your family, but that's understandable, as they lack the insights and results you already have... Better surround yourself with people that believe in the Internet as a genuine money generator and business builder... mastermind groups and private coaching is one way of learning from others who've been there, and done it... They'll be able to give you motivation and stimulate you go on your own path, not depend on them, on each step you take *** This family thing is a sensitive issue... even if you show them results, they still won't believe the web is a long-term channel for profit. They might see it as a part time or one-shoot opportunity to make some money, and get out... People need to understand that making money online is not Lotto, although most people believe such... I've been meaning to read Steve Jobs' biography for a while. He's absolutely inspiring. I identify with so much of what he says, especially about college. I've always said that when I go to college I could care less about the degree, I want the knowledge. When I ask if what I'm doing now is what I would want to do on my last day, the answer's been "No" (with a few expletives) for quite some time. My infamous little quote on finding out what you want to do with your life has been "Do it for 4 years and don't make any money doing it. If you're working at it harder than you ever have before, you've found what you want to do."

Jasmine, Do you think I have that magic wand? The magic want we all search for is within each one of us -- it is called passion and sheer determination. Unless you're willing to get up 5 a.m. (an example) and work like crazy on getting that meaty blog post done, or finishing that ebook, or creating that web site design, you won't reach far. Affiliate marketing (and business in general) is the playing field where everybody enters, but only a few resist. That's good for the warrior who is able to test his or her limits, and out-rank himself or herself. That's bad for the weak person who is able to test his or her limits, just to prove they're not worthy nor ready to exceed their expectations... My magic wand is my brand reputation which I work on it daily... like a ritual or exercise... the moment you stop, you're (almost) dead.
