What’s The Fuss About Instagram For Android?

Now Android users can get to experience the photo-sharing app Instagram on their phone as the program is finally available for download on Google Play. After 18 months of being an exclusive app for the iOS, Instagram arrives on the Android. With the app, Android users can browse, upload, share and filter images on different networks including Instagram’s own social network.

Here is a look at the features of Instagram for Android.

First things first, the app will be compatible with smartphones running on Android 2.2. Currently, it does not support tablets. Instagram for Android will have similar features and user interface to the iOS version. With already over 1 billion iOS users benefiting from Instagram, 30 million new users are looking to add on to that number. Kevin Systrom, Instagram co-founder and CEO, said that they are excited about the new development and considers it as the next big step for their company.

But there will be some features that will not be present in the Android app but will arrive at a later date. Tilt Shift, the feature that lets users tilt focus will not be included in the Android version. Likewise, not making it to the initial release are three minor features namely Share from Feed, Live Preview, and Share to Flickr.

Share from Feed is a feature that allows sharing pictures to Twitter and Facebook. This is different from the regular photo-sharing option in the capture upload and posting process. Live Preview allows filtering using the camera lens.

In addition, Instagram for Android will include support for OpenGL ES 2. It will also have a maximum resolution support of 2,048 x 2,048 pixels. The app will be available in English, Italian, French, Chinese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, and Portuguese translations.

Since it was launched sometime in 2010, Instagram had been an exclusive app for the iOS. In its first six months, the app has garnered around 5 million users. To be able to use Instagram for Android, you need to register for an account. Once you are hooked up to the app, you can start linking it to your Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, and other accounts.

Looks really interesting. I have not tried Instagram, as I am using a Windows smart phone now, not iOS nor Android.
