Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. Words of wisdom and life from one of the greatest entrepreneurs of the century.
He talked about how school teaching have no resemblance to life’s teachings and no concept of reality. Having successful grades does not mean having success in life. He sets up the talk about how to expect failures from life and move on.
11 Rules You Will Never Learn in School by Bill Gates
Rule 1: Life is not fair, get used to it
Rule 2: The world does not care about your self esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something before you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will not make $60,000 a year right out of high school, you won’t be a vice president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not below your dignity. Your grand parents had a different word for burger flipping: They called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine from your mistakes learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way by paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you though you were. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent’s generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winner and losers but life has not. In some schools, they have abolished falling grades and they’ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to anything in real life
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is not real life, in real life people have to leave a coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds, chances are you’ll end up working for one.
I love rule number 1 and rule number 11….Nerds Rule :).
Have a Super Sunday and a great week ahead

ZK,
I love your stuff and subscribe to your blog but this list was not from Bill Gates. I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer. Here is a link to Snopes.com.
I still like the points but they came from another nerd. 🙂

Hi ZK,
Long time sines last comments from me.
Then right as Bill Gates has written it, life and reality is much harder than what we learned in school with her all the protective rules. Schools should teach these 11 rules and get students to realize what awaits them after school.

I think every school should make a Poster of thess Rules and post it on the wall of every class. BTW, I like #2 as well, of course #11 is my favourite.
Thanks for your advice , we learnt at school a lot of things but , we don’t use it in real life !!! Parents are insist so much with their child and they don’t want to ear their child complaining about school !!! Parents must be more tolerante with their child and try to understand them when they don’t want to go to school I THINK !!!!
