When you blog day in and day out you can run out of idea. It is just a simple fact of life. No person can endlessly come up with new and inventive things to write about on their own. In fact, I find myself at a loss for what to write quite often.
You see, when a blog has a niche topic , like any good blog should, writing about the same thing over and over again can get boring. It is not only boring for the blogger, but it gets boring for the readers also.
But how do you spice up a blog without losing focus on the niche topic? What can you write about that you have not written about a thousand times before. Well, here are some ideas that might work for you:
Money – Money is always a good topic to write about in nearly any blog niche. You see, people are always concerned about their finances. From making money to saving money to spending money, readers will want more information than what they already have. You may not think you have much to say about the subject, but you would be surprised at how much you actually do know.
Do you pay the bills for your blog? Then write about it. Do you have to pay rent or get your own food? Sure you do! How about business expenses, technology repairs, car repairs, clothing, educations, kids and so on. You have plenty of real world experience to offer. Just because it seems like common sense to you does not mean it is for everybody else. Share what you know, share how you save money , spend money and make money and I know your blog will keep going strong.
Politics – I know a lot of people do not want to get into writing about politics because it is kind of a touchy subject. However the world is run by politics. It touches every part of our live from our laws to our taxes. This topic represents a lot of different things you could write about. If you do a little research or just tell about your experiences I know that new readers will pop out of the woodwork. Sure, some of them will be confrontational and argumentative, but even those readers still count and add real life to your blog.
Images – One thing that is true about people everywhere is that they are very visual. If you can give readers a picture then you can catch their attention. Images are great things to blog with when you are out of ideas. A great picture is, to quote the saying, worth a thousand words. Find an image that fits with your blog’s niche topic.
It is best if it is cute, funny, pretty, or strange in some way. Anything that will get people’s attention is a good idea. Make sure it fits with the theme of your blog however to avoid issues. You can just use an image with a caption as an entire post or do more, it is all up to you. Infographics also fit into this category and are quiet popular nowadays. You can use some of the points made on an infographic and expound on it with ideas of your own. You can also use other forms of multimedia like videos and even gif clips.
Pets –Pets are a great way to get people involved in you blog. Everyone likes to talk about their pets. Even if you do not currently have a pet on your own you probably have something to say about them. From cute stories to horror stories to training tips and allergy warning, pets cover a lot of topics. There are even some very unusual pets out there that would make a post all their own. How would you like to own a pet skunk? Or a bulldog that could skateboard? These things really appeal to readers and can add a bit of fun to your blog as well.
Hobbies –We all have hobbies we enjoy. Hopefully one of your hobbies that you love is writing, otherwise you are going to be a pretty unhappy blogger. But you can talk about whatever else you are interested in, even if you have never done it. From skydiving to fishing to mountain climbing or knitting there are so many hobbies you can choose to talk about. Maybe you like to play the piano or design music videos for fun, maybe you like to rebuild engines or fly model planes. Whatever it is that you enjoy doing in your free time is also an opportunity to write and share that passion with the blogging world.
News – If you are really stuck out for ideas checking out the news is a good idea. You could go local with things that are happening around your town or more global with things the effect the whole world. It is all up to you. You do not have to be an authority on anything. Just share your opinion or reaction to the news for the best effect.
Be aware that news gets old fast, so if you want to use something you read you better write and post it in a timely manner. Otherwise you can do some research and collect stories from over the years showing a pattern or trend that other people may not have noticed. The news is always changing so it is a good source of new blogging ideas.
Writing – Writing about writing seems kind of foolish at first until you remember who the majority of people are reading your blog. Your fellow bloggers are probably your biggest audience and they are always looking for new ways to write better. Share your trials and tribulations on your journey to become the blogger you are today or ask for help and advice from more seasoned bloggers. Whatever you do you can’t go wrong because you are writing about what you know.
Relationships – Love, romance and relationships are the backbone of society. It seems like we are all either looking for love, in love, or hurt by love. That means that people want advice about how to get a relationship, keep one alive, or get over a bad one. You have vital information to offer, even if you do not think you do. Are you single? Write about what to look for in a mate or where singles can hang out and be happy as individuals.
Are you in love? Write about how to keep the love alive and the struggles you go through daily. Are you divorced? Write about how you are recovering or have recovered and what you plan to do now. These are all topics that readers love to see and will bring lots of traffic to your blog.
Entertainment – Speaking of traffic, there is nothing that people like to talk about more than entertainment. Television, movies, music, theater and more all seem to have a firm grip on reader’s hearts. You can talk about the biggest blockbuster hits, the latest music fads, celebrity bloopers, local productions and the TV show you just can’t seem to get enough of. You can even talk about where you bought your new HD TV and what game system has the coolest games for the holidays.
Nostalgia – Last but not least is the art of looking back. Even people in their twenties look back on their childhood with fond memories. Talk about games and toys you had as a child, shows you like to watch and characters you loved. You might be surprised at how many people want to talk about their memories of youth.
These are just a few ideas to help get you writing again when you run out of ideas. They will not work for all blogs, but I am sure you can find a way to make one or two fit your needs. Happy writing!
