5 Reasons Why Blogging Isn’t For You

Blogging can be an extremely fun and rewarding activity for anyone who likes expressing themselves or their opinions on just about anything imaginable. It can also be a tough and challenging avenue to go down.

There are a number of challenges that bloggers face including competition, time constraints and commitment, and many others. The bitter truth is that blogging isn’t for everybody.

Here are some tell tale signs or reasons why blogging might not be for you.

1. You Can’t Handle Not Being Successful

The reality is that blogging isn’t going to make your rich overnight, and it takes time to develop a credible source of quality content that people truly enjoy. If you simply cannot stand to not be successful even for the shortest period of time, then blogging isn’t for you. You’ll be in for a rude awakening if you think your going to hit the big time with minimal effort.

2. You Don’t Have Time

As it was mentioned before, blogging takes time and a LOT of it. Why does it take time? You have to be able to generate a lot of high quality, captivating content that your readers will enjoy. This is not something that you can do overnight so you’re going to have to be willing to put in a good amount of time in order to make that happen. If your schedule doesn’t warrant you enough time to create content for your blog, then you’ll have an empty site that won’t attract any followers.

3. You Don’t Have Any Good Ideas

Another reason why blogging might not be for you is because you simply don’t have anything good to say. There certainly isn’t anything wrong with you, and you’re not any less of a person for it. It’s just that you have to be able to come up with interesting things to write about that will capture the attention of readers.

If you can’t think of anything good to say, then maybe it’s better that you don’t say anything at all. Bloggers who can’t come up with their own creative ideas often times revert to copying and pasting content directly to their blogs from other sources, which isn’t a vary effective way of using time and will not help you attract dedicated readers.

4. You Can’t Commit to a Long Term Plan

In order to be successful at blogging you have to be willing to commit to a long term plan which in most cases involves being able to provide fresh content to your users on a regular basis so that your readership base will continue to grow. If you simply aren’t willing to stick it out for the long haul and are looking for a short term quick money making solution, then perhaps blogging isn’t for you.

5. You’re Not Willing to Accept Criticism

Let’s face it, not everything that you write is going to win the hearts of your readers over, and there may even be times when your readers completely reject your content. It’s bound to happen because nobody is perfect. One thing about blogging is that you have to be willing to take a little criticism now and then in order to make yourself a better writer. If you’re not willing to accept occasional criticism, then blogging definitely isn’t for you.

So… You Still Want to Blog?

After reading these five points you should now realize blogging should be viewed as a long-term success plan and not a quick cash fix. If, however, you are prepared for the long-haul, blogging can be a rewarding, enjoyable and highly lucrative way to do business online. Please leave your comments for me below!

For sure, blogging is not for everyone. Some people are just not interested in writing content on a regular basis. Your other points are complete true as well. You need to have realistic expectations when getting into blogging. Even then you may not realize it's for you until you give it a shot.
ZK February 11, 2011 - 12:21 am
You are right, nothing happens without giving a shot :)...if you are excited about blogging go for it, don't worry about the money in the initially few months, concentrate on building credibility and the right audience for your blog....money will follow if you have the basics in place...... BLOGGING is LOW COST and HIGH RETURNS You can start a blog with less than $100 , how awesome is that :) ..its a very low start up cost compared to any other business. The returns are high, enough to retire from your 9 to 5 job in less than 2 - 3 years... Go for it and work hard to make it happen...Life is awesome once the money starts to kick in :)

@ZK, yeah if you get into it for the sole intention of making money, its likely not going to work out. Alot of the success stories start with people not really thinking that they are going to make alot of money from it but rather its something else that drives them to do their blog. -Jean

wow that's a great read, blogging is a not a job for everyone only we see few bloggers who are successful and rest are just blindly following others and search new ways to make money

Well the good thing is that these days people are realizing that themselves. Unlike before wherein people would just jump into blogging and making money, most of them now realize that in order to last long in blogging, they have to really like what they are doing..

Great points here. Nothing will happen even if you love blogging but blogging does not love you :D Anyway, it doesn't really happen overnight so when you see those get rich quick schemes, it's definitely not true. It takes more and those may include passion, hardwork, perseverance, etc.

Hey David I agree blogging is certainly not for everyone, you only have to search for some blogs are you will find tons that have not been updated for year(s) People start off blogging thinking it's a piece of cake but they soon realise it is harder than it looks. Excellent article, Alex

Excellent Article. I agree with you. Blogging is not a fun, and it is not for all.

I think that #3 and #4 are the most common issues of why people don't start to blog. The lack of time and ideas is the killer of bloggers. If you don't have time to market, write your articles, answer comments, promote the articles of your blog then you can't really make it successful. Also, having time, but not having ideas, although it can be somewhat bypassed by hiring people it will ultimately be your demise.

Blogging is very time consuming indeed. Did you know that e-marketing gurus show you their end results AFTER 3 years + of SEO labor, but never tell you that on their promotion. If your planning to make online income, patience is a virtue.

Hi David, There are some articles wherein debates can spark up. Some people do not agree with the author’s opinions, and sometimes that kind of annoys the author. If that happens, then blogging isn’t for that person. Thanks for sharing!

I thought blogging is like keeping a journal online. Isn't this how it all started? The fact that people are making money out of it (well, some people) is just a follow-up to doing something you like.
Ben February 23, 2011 - 10:43 pm
My thoughts exactly! Blogging takes an immense amount of work! However, so doesn't a 9 to 5 job ...especially if it's one you don't like!! :-) I find it exciting to build lasting friendships and residual income through blogging.
