Bing, Yahoo lose search market share to Google in September 09

According to web analytics firm Statcounter , Bing has registered it’s first decline since its launch, Bing has lost more than one percentage of the search marketing in US in September.

Its market share fell from 8.51% to 9.64% in August. During this time Yahoo also showed a decline in its market share to 9.40 % from 10.50 %. Although Bing’s decline has been just over one percentage point, it sure would be a worrying factor for Microsoft.

With Bing and Yahoo losing market shares in the month of september, it should be no surprise who gained from them. Google gained by almost two percentage points to 80.08% in September from 77.83% the previous month.

As per StatsCounter the Data is based on an analysis of 4.6 billion search engine referring clicks (1.1 billion from the US) which were collected during the period September 2008 to September 2009 from the StatsCounter network of over three million websites.

That is absolutely right and this trend has been getting continued since several years ago and will probably not stop in the future either. Whatever Yahoo and MSN are doing will not help them grabbing some market share from Google which is just fixing its No.1 position in the search engines realm over the net.

If Microsoft want to gain more market share, I think they need to spend their budget more and focus on technology than marketing effort. Some people already disappointed with bing performance. Although it said bing still in beta. .-= Ruri @ Free article directory´s last blog ..Helpful Information On Houston Hotel Reservations =-.

That is crazy... I'm not surprised though. The novelty of using a search engine other than Google is wearing off for a lot of people. Also, I'm sure a lot of people are done trying out the new search engine and are ready to get back to their tried and true. I personally still haven't tried using Bing. Do you using it? .-= Blake Waddill @ Props Blog Reviews´s last blog ..Are You Ready For Google Wave? =-.

You are right it very hard to chase Google. It's really a huge search engine.

wow ! what a great competition between three huge search engines. Interesting.

After the initial success of Bing, Google is firmly back in the driving seat. What can Bing and Yahoo! actually come up with to make a meaningful and lasting impact on Google's dominance of the search engines? Next question - Whatever has become of Wolfram Alpha?
David Rachford October 5, 2009 - 5:34 am
RE: wolfram alpha Have you ever tried it? sort of interesting; but trivial. I mean really: If I google my name, at least my damn websites, FB, arrest records (just kidding) come up.... Wolfram doesn't recognize the input. Idiots. But W-A suggested I try a date: so I entered my birthday. I found I share it with Judge Anthony Scalia, and Rupert Murdock. I was born 14,088 days ago under a waxing gibbous moon which was 99.45% illuminated. Interesting trivia; but not very useful. .-= David Rachford´s last blog ..How Accountants Get Terrific Twitter Traffic =-.

Bing looked to be getting some halfway decent traction - hopefully this is just a blip. Bing is shaping up to a be a decent competitor to Google and their attitude towards webmasters is very different from Google's.

This is funny: never before have I seen anyone rooting for Microsoft. At first google was hailed as a savior from microsoft; now microsoft is hailed as a potential savior from GooG. My 2 cents: Google's roots as #1 search run deep: think of how many individual websites run google search on their own sites for the "internal search"... sure, it's easy to add a line or two of code to your internal site search to change it to bing, but who's going to bother? google has been in there since 1996... which is FOREVER. I'm just wondering: how many "Google searches" are from the google homepage alone; versus internal website searches, etc. How many of those google searches are done through, say youtube? or facebook? (facebook may have it's own internal search, i don't know...) food for thought...

Oh, it seems like Google is starting to fight back. I think Yahoo recently had a tie-up with Microsoft. It'll be bad news if Google will continue to rise against both Yahoo and Microsoft. This match is definitely something to watch out for. :D
Dataflurry October 6, 2009 - 10:27 pm
Wow, I am a big proponent of Google, so this makes me happy. These other search engines simply can't compete. They don't have anything unique to offer, and Google has done almost everything right.
Seaward October 6, 2009 - 11:08 pm
You are right my friend it's not easy to compete with Google. I am also very happy to know about this.
Cincinnati Web Design October 8, 2009 - 9:39 am
Bing and Yahoo will not catch up to Google anytime soon. For driving traffic their search engines are hardly relevant. I do like the competition in the search engine field though because it drives competition and innovation!
Rohit@Tech-Freak Stuff October 9, 2009 - 7:06 am
I never thought the emergence of Bing will hit Yahoo so hard! Since, Bing has joined the Race, Yahoo is loosing its market share steadily even though bing is not growing at the same race. Nowadays, Google is known as the very common search engine and I can't reject that it has big help in us.
