There’s a reason that viral marketing works on the internet much better than any medium before it and that’s because it’s so cheap to share and distribute information.
And at a basic level that’s all there is too it, you’re creating something that people will want to share. So maybe it sounds simple but here are a few tips on how to create viral media to increase your web presence.
- Be Unique :
Whatever you create it has to be unique to the internet as people really have no appetite for old content . That doesn’t mean you can’t put a spin on an old idea though, some of the most successful campaigns are those that have spoofed others efforts. - Don’t Oversell :
You can’t oversell your own product or service. People are very aware of being “advertised to” so keeping your brand message subtle is very important. It’s a difficult balance to create because ultimately you’re only creating the content for the benefit of your business. However keeping any advertising till the end usually prevents people from being put off. - Initiate a Kick Start:
Almost all viral media needs a kick start to get the ball rolling before it starts to snowball. The best way to do this is to pay an influential blogger or anyone with a wide audience to talk about your media, hopefully you will only have to do this once or twice before it takes off. - Measure, Measure, Measure:
Tracking how successful the campaign is will be essential, mainly because you’ll always want to do more and if you don’t know what’s working how will you know what direction to go in? Tracking a general buzz can be difficult but monitor the keywords people use to discover your site and the landing pages they find for a better insight.
So creating content that millions of people want to talk about isn’t exactly easy but then again there’s never been a better time to try given the way the internet works.
