Of late the UBT has started looking a bit boring and plain. However, this doesn't take any credit away from the KidBlogger... He has been amazing in developing and marketing it! True trendsetter for many MMO blogs. I have a copy of UBT with me. Yet to use it as I see that if I have to brand it and remove the stock looks, I need to spend another 200 dollars... Ajith, I'm not in ZK's class of trying to stay on top of all this stuff like best SEO themes, but I can say I have been using Thesis for awhile and I really do like it. For a lot of basic stuff if it really easy to customize. For things that are not as easy there is a user forum that can be quite helpful. Like a lot of things there is a bit of getting used to finding your way around things. Unlike many other themes I have tried though it has been worth the effort. I also find the more I use it the better it becomes because I know more about it. It's SEO was built in but a little weak in just a few areas at first (title, meta description, and a few other things). Most of that is now very nicely baked right in and you have a lot of control over most of the SEO stuff you need to worry about. I don't like having to keep updating things, in part because of the wordpress changes but also in part due to the theme being updated somewhat regularly. That though can be a plus in some regards. The theme seems to constantly improving and just as good, it is not falling behind in terms of the latest wordpress code build. Just my two cents....

Don,ZK, Thanks for the details provided. One of the things that I hate is the frequent WP upgrades that is followed by theme upgrades (less frequent though). Usually, I edit the theme myself for a bit of customizing which means that I have to do it every time :( Thesis looks very pleasant to read... but as Darren says (twitips) it needs a lot of changes as well to remove the stock looks and brand it the way you want. Ajith, Yes it does take some effort to brand and tweak. All non-custom made themes do, if we are interested in making them into something that represents what we want. Yet as I mentioned I do think the Thesis theme allows you to do this better than a lot of other themes. Some of it by simply selections options, and much by having to do a bit more. The do a bit more stuff can be handled as you see fit (everyone wants to make their own special changes, of course) but you can get help with most changes you might need through the forums. In the past I have been frustrated not so much by needing to tweak a theme but by NOT being able to tweak things. It was either not possible to figure it out or what I wanted to do broke things (not being the developer, I could not figure out how to implement my change correctly). One telling thing for me is I have used Thesis on a few sites I have and I keep learning more. With other themes, I have put in time and effort and eventually abandoned using the theme for one reason or another. Again, this is just my experience. Everyone is different :)

Interesting how you compare the themes by niche; I haven't heard it done like that before. I'd think you'd want good SEO no matter what niche (with the possible exception of a totally personal friends and family only blog), but maybe not so much the advertisements and such. Hi Dennis, Wordpress itself is SEO friendly as a CMS, the theme design has little to do with being SEO friendly. The theme has a different role to play in terms of navigation and being user friendly based on the niche.

I'm no SEO expert for sure (I've proven that time and again lol), but I must strongly, yet politely disagree. I do know by now that WP...straight out of the box...is anything but SEO friendly. Starting with the simplest of all, it's nasty default permalink, down to the multitudinous of SEO related plugins. Also, I'm must be really confused. I think this is very useful. Themes for our blogs has also played a vital role in absorbing readers and their loyalty, aside from the content itself. When we have good themes it can also boost visitors to our sites since they are first attracted to it.
