Three Great Reasons to Sell Your Ad Space Directly

For anyone that already has a high traffic web site or blog you can already appreciate the value in making money with your site. No matter what niche or market your site is in selling ads on your site is one of the biggest money makers online. The good thing about selling ad space on your site is that you have virtually an endless supply of ad campaigns you can promote, third party networks to serve your advertising or even manage your own ad space and sell it directly.

In this post we are going to discuss three great reasons why selling your own ad space is much better than using other programs like Google Adsense or partnering up with other third party networks. Let’s get started!

More Money for You!

The best and most convincing reason to start selling your own advertising is that you will keep the most money for yourself. No one is sure how much Google Adsense takes from their publishers, but it’s estimated in the 30-60% range. If you are going to be using another third party banner ad network like BuySellAds, they are going to take 25% of your revenue every month.

Sure, BuySellAds is a killer network and can supply you with great advertisers, but if there is already a demand for ad space on your site, then selling directly will allow you to cash in even more.

Working Deals with Advertisers

Another advantage to selling your own advertising is that you can actually work with your potential advertisers and give them discounts and deals on long term advertising and maybe even build larger packages for you to create more business.

If you are going to sell ad space on your site, then there is a good chance your advertisers will also want to buy a review post. Advertisers also want to save money, so be sure to offer a discount if they buy for three, six or twelve months in advance.

It’s Just to Darn Easy Not Too!

One of the many reasons why sites don’t know how to make money or sell their own advertising is that they simply don’t know where to start or how to manage invoicing and placing ads.

There are way too many alternatives to Google Adsense and there are plenty of wordpress ad management plugins that allow you to easily run your own banner ads and invoicing/payment issues are a breeze with Paypal.

At the end of the day there is nothing wrong with selling banner ad space on your site through other third parties. However, if you are pushing some massive volume you should look into your options and figure out how much money you could be missing out on by not selling your ad space directly.

I just clicked over the BuySellAds and it looks pretty great. I think I bought some ads a year ago on a site without much success, but selling is an option. I noticed also that you can sell tweets, even better.

They are a pretty huge network of sites. Definitely a great resource for information even if you aren't actively buying and selling ads.

BSA is an awesome network, I 've been using them for more than a year now...but like Zac says, its best to sell your ads directly if you re a publisher / blogger. If you are looking to advertise then BSA has a huge list of blogs.

ZK, if you are selling ads on your blog its virtually for advertisers to get to know your blog, unless your will known online. The best part of ad networks is that advertisers know that there are great networks available to advertise. They avoid wasting time searching for blogs who want to advertise.

Hello Zac, All the three reasons cited by you for selling ad space directly are genuine. But these things may not work the way you said, if the experience is not enough to deal with advertising. If you know the proper channel then these ideas will definitely click. Regards, Vijay

In the end it's all about creating a quality site that generates traffic. Then you just need to decide if you will sell your own ad space or outsource the process.

Some great points. Right now I am monetizing my affiliate manager blog with AdSense, but I plan to start selling the space directly in the next month or so. AdSense has been great while my blog was growing, but it's probably at the point now that I'd be able to drum up some interested advertisers. Another nice thing about selling the space directly is that you have full control over what ads are shown. I know a lot of blogs use OIOpublisher to sell their placements. Any experience with that plugin?

From past experience I have seen that Adsense doesn't do so well with affiliate marketing based sites... just from the point that the ads don't pay well enough and don't get clicked on enough, as online marketers usually know they are ads. OIOPublisher is good and is used by many, but since I incorporate my banner ads/sponsors/reviews together, I usually manage these ads directly versus sending them directly to paypal for payment processing.

I never sale ad space infect never think about it, in-spite of it that i have a good traffic blog, but i don't know how much i should charge?. Can you help me in this matter? is it depends on blog's or website's traffic, PR and Alexa?.

Throw Google Adsense on the blog for a week or two and see how much it makes you. Then sell direct advertising for at least double and see how that goes.

I once went over to BuySellAds and there is a huge potential in earning there once you get the hang of it. Thanks ZK for recommending BSA! I’ll look into it right now.

I didn't realize there are so much benefits to sell ad space on your blog, especially when you are doing it directly. I wonder whether anyone is interested to buy some ad space from my blog 100webhosting.com?

It really depends on what niche you are in. Go after advertisers, don't wait for them to come to you.

It certainly is good to sell your ad space directly. However, I have yet to do that... maybe I can do that once my website's PR has improved... to something like PR6 or PR7.

Direct advertising is now a days being used by many successful bloggers and website owners. And direct ad networks such as BuySellAds, makes it even more easier for us to sell ad spaces on our sites. I have been using BSA on some of my sites and have been pretty much successful with it so far. It works great if you know how to make it work.

I believe BuySellAds is a great network with the potential to earn more than adsense, although none of my blogs reach the minimum views per month, which I think is like 50k

Hi Zac, Creating a wonderful site but putting some quality and epic content would really lead to invite some good advertisers who are willing to shell it out just to advertise on your site, though at times it may be tough to make them sure that the audience of your site connects well with the advertisers product or service. Regards, Nisha Advani
