Why you don’t have to be a “make money” blogger to make a living from blogs

It’s a myth that only “make money” blogs or “How to make money from blogging” blogs actually make money. The fact is that you don’t have to be a “make money” blogger or a blogger in the “make money online” -MMO niche to be successful.

If you are looking to build you own blog , chances are that you have spent a fair amount of time reading some of the well know Probloggers and “make money blogging” blogs.

In fact, there’s a good chance that you’ve been in this rat cycle for some time now. Its actually good if you have been reading and blog hopping to familiarize with the basic concepts of blogging. I’ve been through it for about three months before I started to blog.

My friend David Risley exposes this myth and puts it very simply in the video below.

Click here or on the above image to watch the video .

David has been a professional blogger for the last 11 years, making my living full-time. He has been blogging since before the word “blog” even existed. And he has makes a staggering six-figure income as a blogger since 2004.

And he did not start off with a “make money” blog or a blog that teaches you “how to make money” blogging. In fact he started off with a technology blog pcmech.com that shows PC users how to build, repair and use their computers to do all kinds of things.

He recently launched the Blog Masters Club, a teaching program that teaches you how to blog and be successful in any niche. Its a power packed training course that will help you set up a successful blog in the begining of the year.

David has combined a decade of trial and error into a solid Problogging course unlike any ever created.

I think people would like more in depth facts and arguments why you think it's a myth that "make money online" blogs only make income ... there are hundreds of successful blogs/bloggers in self-development, health related and computers/Internet/graphic design niches and I think most people are aware of that. the rest are just with their head in the sand, probably subscribing to "MMO" newsletters only.

You have summarized it well in the above 5 lines, there are hundred of bloggers in other niches that do well, that's why its a myth that only MMO blogs can make money :)

All of my friends/family think it's a scam as well. And I agree, a lot of the guides out there might be misleading with their claims. But if you know what you're doing, blogging is going to be profitable if you put enough work into it 100% of the time. .-= Mid Mo Mortgage´s last blog ..Jan 29 – Market Growth Surging As GDP Reports Forthcoming =-.

I know you can make money with just about any type of blog, and in any niche. I believe it's actually a lot easier if you are new to internet marketing and blogging, to start off with a blog in a entirely different niche, rather than starting a blog in the "make money online" niche. Some people forget that "make money online" blogs are usually going to get visitors who are internet savvy, and it takes some experience to make any sales from them. While other niches, will get traffic from people who really don't know much about internet marketing, and it can be easier to make conversions and get the clicks. Blog Masters Club looks like a great program, I will have to look into it further.

Some good points. It always amazes me how many people jump in to the MMO type of sites when a small niche site will be much easier to rank for and make money from. .-= Dave´s last blog ..Get Paid To Take Paid Surveys Online =-.

Thank you for saying this. This has got to be one of the biggest beginner mistakes ever! There is so much competition in the MMO niche that it's almost impossible for someone just starting out to begin making real money here. Really, even for experienced marketers, it's a tough niche. Look into not so popular, but still monetizeable niches. If you are just starting out, the lack of competition will allow you to realize the fruits of you efforts much sooner than you would in a saturated niche.

You will make money in the MMO if you have valuable content to share with your readers. It make take a while to build influence and make money.

Yes, too many people don't realize that the very essence of blogging is about being yourself first. Most of the successful bloggers have their own identity and their blog's have been nurtured with their unique methods and techniques. And people will either like that or hate that. And usually they do if you did it your way. Till then, Jean

It's actually best to make a blog that you are really passionate about. If you find it really interesting then other people will find it infectious. Your readers will actually know if you really believe in your post or you are doing it because everyone else is.

The problem is that I am really only passionate about the various ways of making money online! So not only is that my passion but now I have to compete with everybody in this crazy niche. I have been standing on the sideline for years reading about how everyone else has made the money online, but now I want to put what I've learned to use. Now I need to build my audience and prove that I'm not just another MMO blogger. I think it is actually tougher in this niche than others to make money due to all the frauds out there.

I know a ton of MMO bloggers don't make money. They make $0 while teaching others how to make money. How funny is that?
Rob@Metal Bending January 31, 2010 - 6:23 am
Also becoming more common are bloggers being hired to write in non blogging mediums. Manolo’s recent coup of a column in the Washington Post is just one example of this as bloggers are increasingly being approached to write for newspapers, magazines and other non blog websites. Along side this is the rise of bloggers as published book authors – this is to the extent that one blogger I spoke with this week complained to me that they were one of the few bloggers than they knew who didn’t have a book deal
ZK January 31, 2010 - 11:52 pm
As a blogger its great to have a book deal , I don't have one yet :)

When I first started my blog, I really thought blog that wrote about make money online could really made a lot of money, but I knew I was wrong when I started blogging for 2 years. My advice for newbie, never start a make money online blog anymore, there is already tons of MMO niche blog on the web and it's nothing new anymore. If you want to be success, try something that someone has not tried before, or write something you like. You'll be success in this way. Cheers, Lee

I think that you can make a great income from blogging as long as you are in a niche where people are passionate about it. Where there is passion there is going to be interest.
