About Two weeks ago, WordPress released a security update version 2.8.2 . Yesterday, I noticed another available upgrade wordpress version 2.8.3 in my Wordpress admin panel. The frequent upgrades are good for the blog as it prevents it from hackers and other security threats. The wordpress team seem to be working to patch up security vulnerabilities with each wordpress upgrade.
I highly recommend you to upgrade your Wordpress blog to the latest available version 2.8.3 to prevent your blog from being hacked. You can upgrade with a simple auto update button built into your Wordpress admin panel or upload the files, being non technical I prefer to use the auto update version. The update doesn’t affect the database.

I really do think that WordPress does a great job in keeping all of their security updated so that your blog isn’t vulnerable to hackers. I write for a variety of blogs, and I really hate using any other service than Word press.

I always upgrade wordpress. The problem is that sometime premium plugin stop working effectively once your upgraded the last version of wordpress… that’s the only thing I fear when you think about how expensive are these plugins…

I thought upgrading to the latest wordpress version can helps in using more plugin? I never think of this problem before. Anyway, I’ve only 1 premium plugin which is OIO Publisher, do let me know if the latest version can’t works with this plugin okay? Btw, I still stick with WP 2.7.1 right now. I’m going to upgrade to the latest version too.

I have not activated OIO Publisher on my blog , but I’ve seen an updated for it in my Wordpress admin panel. The update should take care of the Wordpress security version..And you don’t want your blog to be hacked just because of one plugin….2.7.1 is too old and vulnerable to being hacked….

How many paid plugins do you have on your blog ? Which plugin are you referring here ? ..most of them are free plugins and easily adapt to the latest wordpress versions

wordpreess released its updated version from 2.8.2 to 2.8.3 and you see lots of security development in the new edition.

Haven’t upgraded, but i heard it about it more from my friend and he was saying that its better and having lot of security fixes. I would definitely implement it as i get free from my schedule..
I read somewhere that if your Wordpress platform is updated and your plugins are not your blog can become vulnerable through some plugins.
Is this right?

It kinda of took me by surprised to see a wordpress update so quickly! We also had a quick update last time… so was kinda of surprising, but I am glad that they did get the update done fast, It’s great to have wordpress working so hard for us! =D

The excellent enhanced feature of WordPress is that you no longer have to manually do the upgrade as simply by clicking on the one button install, the upgrading process would initiate.
The point about upgrading the plugins too could sound logical but that matter is also quite convenient.

Thanks for this post – I upgraded already, while there were problems with some plugins (Category Order), it was easily fixed and I can sleep well knowing that my blog is secure at least for now

I haven’t upgraded yet. I am concerned that something may break on the site. I willdo so at the weekend when I have more to try and fix things if something does break.

The updates are coming very fast and now they have just added 2.8.4. The security vulnerability in Wordpress 2.8.3 yesterday (and in earlier versions as well) that allowed an attacker to reset passwords of users. While this vulnerability could not be exploited to gain access to the user account (unless access to the email account the password was send to was available as well) it could be used to annoy those users especially when combined with an automated script that would reset the password every seconds or minutes. That’s one less vulnerability to worry about.

I definitely made sure to upgrade. I love 2.8.3, the ability to install plug ins without ever touching CPanel is an absolute godsend.

Hahahah! The WordPress updates are only coming thick and fast. I went to download version 2.8.3 but version 2.8.4 is already up. The auto update feature isn’t working so well on my version that I’m running on localhost, and manually updating is a pain. It is a good thing that issues get addressed quickly though, WordPress ain’t Microsoft, that’s for sure!

The security issues are really my only complaint with WP. Overall, I think it’s the best free CMS on the market.
FYI – I think there’s a free plug-in that makes your blog auto-update every time WP releases a new version. Unfortunately, I can’t recall the name.

I have to admit, the automatic upgrades make me pretty happy these days. I used to feel this overwhelming feeling every time the notice appeared that I needed to upgrade. Simple things like this make a huge difference.
These days, I don’t mind a bit. Just backup and click.

MY admin panel keeps telling me to upgrade, I guess I should do what it says really…
I have not upgraded yet and not sure if I am. The problem I find with upgrading wordpress is that not all of the plugins will be compatible with the new upgrade. So then I have a theme or a plugin(s) that does not work until the developer updates.
