Commenting on industry related blogs has SEO benefits, but it’s really about much more than that. It’s about being part of a community, sharing your knowledge, establishing yourself as a thought leader , and making connections with others.
Many people don’t look at it that way and simply think “easy link!” when blog commenting. They don’t give it the thought that it deserves. When taking this approach to blog commenting , it can quickly result in the blog owner sending your comment to the spam folder, never to be seen again.
Any comment that you make after that will immediately be sent to the spam folder. Like any other marketing strategy, blog commenting takes time to be effective.
It’s important to research relevant blogs that have a respectable amount of traffic and follow these blog commenting guidelines to ensure that your comment is seen:
Use Your Real Name
Blogs are a form of social media, and it’s about making connections with actual people. If you are representing a company, use your real name instead of the company name when blog commenting.
The link provided establishes your connection to the company, so the company name is not needed in the “name” section.
Contribute to the Conversation
Don’t merely write “Awesome info!”, “Outstanding blog!”, or “Fantastic post!” Blog writers aren’t dumb. They know that you are only trying to butter them up for a link.
They also assume that if that’s all you write that you probably didn’t even read the post. Take the time to read the entire post and write a comment that shares your thoughts or opinions on the matter. It should be at least a few sentences long at the very least.
Avoid Spelling/Grammar Errors
We are all prone to typos every once in awhile, but spelling and grammar errors in blog comments are a quick way to get sent to spam. Proof read your comment just as you would proof read any other content that you’d distribute on the web.
Personalize It
If you are speaking directly to the author, use their name. For example, if the bloggers name is Kathy, start your post with, “Hi Kathy!” This will attract their attention and bloggers know that a spammer wouldn’t take the time to include this detail.
Don’t Sell
A blog comment area isn’t an appropriate place for a sales pitch. If you provide a thoughtful comment, that is promotion in itself for you or the company that you represent.
Don’t talk about the products or services that you offer and never include links in the comment area.
Don’t Go Overboard
There’s no need to comment on a blog every day. After awhile the blogger might get tired of seeing your name at the top of the commenting section. Don’t risk annoying them.
