8 Highly Effective Ways of Increasing your RSS Subscription Numbers

RSS feeds are very important for bloggers and website owners. RSS feed is a unique tool that can help liven up and maintain the interest of readers in your blog or website. Unfortunately, only a small fraction of Internet surfers subscribe in RSS feeds. For this reason alone, the following are eight effective ways on how you can increase your RSS subscribers.

Place your RSS button in the top right of your blog/website

According to most Internet experts, placing your RSS button at the top right of your website is the way to go. The top right section of your website is said to be the best place where you can put your RSS button.

Have a subscribe to blog/website section

Displaying an RSS subscription button isn’t enough. Believe it or not, Internet surfers rarely subscribe with RSS feeds and having a plain and simple button won’t help your cause. Have a “subscribe to blog” or website section not just for your RSS feed but also to other subscriptions like newsletters and social media accounts.

Make your RSS button stand out, choose an effective color or design

An orange RSS feed button is the “in” thing – during the year 2000 perhaps. Today, having an orange RSS feed button won’t help you. Try to choose an effective color or design for your RSS feed – a type of color or design that can stand out with your blog or website’s theme.

Use social proof – display the current number of your existing subscribers

Social proof is one of the strongest psychological stimuli that can trigger a desired response. Don’t just put the words “subscribe here” try to experiment with “17,987 people have subscribed.”

Promote your blog/website in different social media platforms

Promoting your blog or website in social media platforms particularly in Facebook and in Twitter can go a long way in helping you get more RSS subscribers. Facebook and Twitter marketing are also cost-effective and provides you with an opportunity to reach a more global audience.

Write good quality content, write in a user-friendly manner

Writing good quality content is the first important rule in the Internet. With countless of talks and discussions regarding search engine optimization, it all boils down to one thing – good quality content.

If you’re writing a blog post, try to write in a friendly and conversational manner. Most likely than not, your audience aren’t rocket scientists.

Make it simple for visitors to subscribe in your RSS feeds

Admit it or not, the average person is lazy and such laziness can lead to people not subscribing to your RSS feeds. To counter that, you need to make the sign up process easier for your potential subscribers. You won’t need their surname or address, so why bother?

Don’t spam your subscribers, try to set a posting schedule

Spamming is a mortal sin in the land of the Internet. Most people will likely stay away from spammers that’s why it’s imperative that you draw the line between regularity of posting and spamming.

We should always try to put ourselves in our subscriber's shoes. We wouldn't like to be flooded with emails or RSS feeds. Thanks for the comments.

I am actually thinking about purchasing a theme that has a big button in the right hand corner for the RSS feed. I think having it very visible is a great idea.

Just like social media or any other way of online marketing, RSS feeds increases your presence over the internet. It might not work as successfully for everybody but to ignore it means you're losing out on an excellent opportunity to get more traffic to your website. The secret is to mix it up, never leave any stone un-turned. You might be surprised what an RSS feed could do for you.
