This morning Google rolled out a new Page Rank (PR) update, the last one was in December 2010. Each time Google does a Page Rank update it causes a lot of grief to bloggers and web owners. I was particularly worried about this page rank update, as a lot of top blogs and sites were affected by the recent Google Panda roll out in February 2011.
There is no doubt that Google is on a clean up mission. They want to clean up their search results to ensure relevancy. The successful roll out of Panda ( named after Google’s software engineer Navneet Panda, who has done some awesome work on machine learning algorithms ) ensured that the stepping stone to this mission was rightly placed. The Page Rank for this blog and my other blogs and sites have not changed…Phew π
The tough task now begins for bloggers and webmasters to ensure that their blogs and sites are kept relevant based on Google’s “Panda” algorithmic changes . The next PR update will be crucial, my guess is that sites that don’t adhere to the Google Panda guidelines will be penalized in Page Rank and in search results.
This Page Rank update also enforced the fact that Google still values Page Rank though it may not make any significant difference to your blog’s traffic or search results.
What are your thoughts on Page Rank ? I think the time has come for Google to kill Page Rank.

I think PageRank is a way for Google to let people know what they think of a site and if it is trustworthy, valuable, and worth paying attention to.
I’m particularly happy with the PR system right now as I jumped up 2 in the rankings!
Glad you weren’t negatively affected!
Congrats on the increase in page ranking π
Hey thanks for letting me know, I just checked and Google gave me a PR 4 this time around. (was 3 for last 3 updates).
I notice my toolbar pr still says 3, but the data centers are saying 4 so I guess one is lagging behind.
Congrats , Good to see sites getting more authority on Google π
Yes the Pagerank update is out and up – thanks for the notice! From zero to four – went online just after the January pagerank update. I am really curious if it will affect our traffic!
Blogger may not like the new development but it will still be welcomed by those with good content. It is a challenge, we need to wake up to this
I have seen a large change in the pagerank of some sites!
Some of the directories have risen to an amazing pagerank score when other sites have dropped in poagerank.
I’ve heard it rumored that PR isn’t really what Google uses anymore. I hear the ‘site authority’ buzz word being used everywhere now and wonder if you think the same thing?
Unfortunately, I didn’t increase but it’s prolly cus my site is new.
I am absolutely OK with the PageRank system. We do not need to worry if we are writing good content and is not using any blackhat techniques.
Good stuff!
My 1 site got PR 5 and two got PR 4 including sadiakomal.com π
I don’t really pay too much attention to Page Rank. I focus more on traffic. As long as you rank for targeted keywords and get quality traffic to your site, that’s what matters most.
Page rank can increase chances to get traffic from SE
I don’t really care about page rank, but a higher one is still nice to see on your sites.
That said, if I was going to use a SEO company, and their homepage was PR0, I’d think twice. It is something sites are judged on, whether or not they should be.
Pace rank can increase traffic but this not necessarily mean that a site with a good pr will automatically get a lot of traffic.
In my opinion, I think this PR update has a connection with Panda campaign Google expanded during many months ago. Content has the very important role in this PR update, the websites/blogs with good quality content, frequently refresh, unique & useful information will be ranked higher than low quality sites.
Hi, thanks for the info. One of my older blogs went from PR4 down to 2 and another website from PR2 up to 3. I switched to you post about the 5 Strategies, thanks for the helpful tips there.
Google has updated PR and this update has been positive for most of the websites, my many of websites got increase in page rank.
My site got PR 3 π
I was not affected negatively as my site went from a PR2 to a PR3. No complaints here π
I am running about 50 websites and they all went from a pr0 straight to a pr2 – yeah, it was good to now give off some power of the domains to outgoing links, but all of the rankings stayed as they were. PR changes do nothing for the website itself, it helps you more if you have links on pages that now have a page rank.
Yep mine dropped from 4 to 3, but itβs nothing to really worry about, itβs the traffic to the blog that really counts
Always fun when these come out. Like always the complainers voice is about 10 times louder then the satisfied guys.
I was very pleased with the latest Google update as 7 of the blogs I run all jumped up.
1 went from PR0 to PR2
1 went from PR2 to PR3
4 went from PR0 to PR3
And my main blog jumped from a PR1 to a PR4. π
