Are you using social media to further your business? Not getting the results you’re after? You need to check this list to see if you’re committing one of the 7 deadly social media sins.
1) You don’t post
– Social media is not for the weak of heart. To get full value out of social media, regardless of the platform, you cannot be a ghost. Be present and at the very least set up a schedule to keep yourself going.
2) There’s no themeÂ
– Believe it or not, if you are all over the place with your post’s content, you’ll draw fewer followers. If you focus on a particular niche you will better resonate with that audience and form better connections. If you honestly need to speak on multiple unrelated topics, set up a separate account.
3) There is no integrationÂ
– You have social media, congratulations; now tell everyone about it. Do you have links to your social media account(s) on your website? If not you’re in trouble.
Go a step further and make sure the logo of the social network and your handle are on all outgoing offline communications (great way to drive more serious followers).
4) Your bio is not greatÂ
– Your social media bio is a prime opportunity to plug your brand, product or yourself (depending on your social media goals). Generally, profiles with a relevant image (i.e. logo or personal photo) and text which includes ‘guru, expert, & founder’ as descriptors for the individual draw more followers compared to those which do not. Don’t forget: link back to your site!
5) You lack customizationÂ
– A great social media profile will be customized aesthetically, meaning you’ll have a tailored background, custom colors, etc. While this is in no way a must (I’ve seen very successful accounts with minimal customization), this definitely makes a profile more attractive to consumers and shows you know what you’re doing online.
6) You have no planÂ
– The biggest mistake you will make with social media is to not have a plan of how you want to use whatever platform you are using, and how it fits into your overall marketing plan. When it comes to taking full advantage of social media, you have to know what direction you want it to take you, or you will spin your tires. Online Surveys can help you to get feedback from your readers and take the right direction in improving your social media plans.
7) You have no metricsÂ
– If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. While you’re developing your social media plan, you have to set hard targets for your campaign to hit in order to determine ‘success’. Failure to do so means you’ll never know if your time and money are well spent.
Happy posting!

Content is key, and the frequency of new content of course. Good read.
I cant tell you how many failure stories I have read where they were doing the right thing but, just got lazy. To quote the office: “Everyone wants to be a millionaire, but no one wants to work for it.” 🙂
I agree with the seven reasons. And I like it when you put the non posting on the top of the list. Social media are the place to have fun, to help people, to make friends, and to stay connected. Without posting is like someone is not already socializing.
These are the right things to avoid in Social media sites if you want to get traffic seriously then you need to keep in touch with social network for much time in a day and you should publish something daily on the for get traffic.
I believe that social media is an amplifier. When you want to amplify a message – you must first have a relevant message, an audience to distribute it to, and a location for those listeners to come.

So true and I actually go through phases as well where I get lazy… when income drops, though, it’s like the kick in the butt that gets me going again. 🙂
Social media marketing is the leading strategy in advertising circles in recent times. With the entrance of social networking sites onto the internet, getting traffic to your site and converting this traffic into sales has become a cakewalk. However, there are some important things to follow while designing a social media strategy and these points you have mentioned here are really apt. It is a good option to prepare an editorial calendar and make sure to stick to that calendar and have your presence felt, over the social circles.
Social media is all the crazy right now, but I’ve not found it to be as good as other forms of marketing: SEO, PPC, etc.
Great Post Marco! Thanks for sharing the useful tips. Social media marketing sure isn’t for the faint hearted and needs a proper formulated strategy in order for one to succeed! Keep up the good work!
