How to Grow your Blog as a Successful Business

How to grow your blog

The last part of this decade shows us that the economical climate is still very sensible to various factors and even the best and strongest countries in the world are lacking a total financial independency.

The best part of the economical crisis we just passed (the optimistically me), or we are facing (the pessimistically me), is that people become more reserved about expenses and consciousness is the base of each monetary unit spent.

A great advantage of this crisis is the online medium, which became the support of many new investments, especially in advertising and online stores.

A blog, as the first prototype, was thought as a simple online journal and along the time became a source of information, but at the same time it may be a source of extra income for the owners, the money received being proportionally to the traffic obtained.

A lot of new blogs are launched everyday with the purpose of monetization; unfortunately very few reach this point.

To make a blog a fruitful business an immense volume of work and a well-defined strategy of monetization, is required.

Here, I propose an own approach of a blog in order to turn it into a real business; any new opinions are always welcomed so please share with us your thoughts.

1. A blog may be a quality business by investing feelings and permanent care into it

Respecting the laws of Murphy, 80% of the work invested into a blog is required in the developing the first 20% of it and consequently lots of abandons are happening every day.

The beginning of any blog is always a difficult time sometimes full of frustrations about the work invested, which may be highly qualitative, but the traffic obtained is mainly a few friends.

These obstacles are the main “ingredients” of the so many dead born projects. The bloggers who really care about their blog and still see it as a business are overcoming more easily the difficult moments.

2. The profit is the ultimate purpose

It isn’t a sin to create a blog with the clear destination of obtaining some extra money, as far as the online presence offers good quality information and the visitors are enjoying the articles, a financial compensation is a pretty decent reward.

To turn into a profitable blog isn’t too easy and only few reach to accomplish it, the best mentality is to treat it as the same of a real estate investment or any other “real” affair.

The road to the profit is simple (theoretical): initially a serious study is required – may the blog be profitable or not, then it is invested the financial and human resources.

Once these are applied the countdown to get to the moment when the amount of money spent to grow up the blog is equal with the money gained from the monetization of it, starts.

This logical enhancement is very hard to put in practice but from now we can talk about profit and new directions of developing.

3. Advertising and quality are irreplaceable

The Internet is a very captivating medium full of possibilities and opportunities and because of that, to be successful isn’t enough to be the best.

The advertising is a vital part in being profitable; none can exist without it. The solutions are multiple and selecting the proper one is a nice mix between science and art.

It only matters to choose the adequate one with the best solutions and at a minimum cost. Nonetheless, it may not be enough to obtain and maintain a constant and reasonable traffic, there is another entity more important: the quality of the posts.

All the blog owners/bloggers must understand that any kind of advertising should conduct the visitors to the blog but nothing more, it can’t maintain them constantly. The quality of the posts is the factor, which maintains the visitors so, in a nutshell, brings money.

4. The brand attracts people

Patience of the bloggers is another capital player in the recipe of the success and many people are losing their hope quickly, expecting fast amazing results and the outcome is giving up the business.

When we are talking about blogs, time is vital, it is impossible to obtain decent traffic in few weeks. A brand is the same as a long time objective and that means the conjunction blog & brand is a titanic job, only few managing to have a positive finalization.

The blogosphere has enough examples that demonstrate the brand power of a blog but it doesn’t come after a month or two, it is about years.

The brand recognition is strictly related to the advertising which is related to the financial investment and that is equivalent with the fact that a brand is a big resource consuming.

The positive side is that once the brand became well known the investment is quickly overcome by the profit so the blog is now a business.

5. Any blog must have new directions of developing

A big mistake of any mature blog is to avoid complementary ways to develop the evolution of it. The evolution shouldn’t be stopped. None should understand that once his blog reached a good traffic, the topics from here should be changed, much more it can represent a serious lose of visitors, all I want to emphasize is that a new kind of post is perfect to experiment from time to time.

There are a lot of hot topics with multiple options of inserting in multiple domains and usually these are really interesting for the users of Internet, i.e. social media. Inserting these is still not enough, it is recommended to study very carefully the reactions of the readers.

Finally, I hope to enjoy my proposals and apply these with your blog; it will be great to know that these worked fine with you!

great article. I’ve attended many webinars and most of the pro bloggers recommend not to blog for money and you’ll make money. but if your blog for money you cannot make money. I do agree with them. peoples kill their blogs before it starts growing by putting tons of adverts and reviews.

“Patience of the bloggers is another capital player in the recipe of the success and many people are losing their hope quickly, expecting fast amazing results and the outcome is giving up the business.”-This should be a reminder to all bloggers especially to the newbies in this industry. Persistence is the key ingredient in becoming successful in this field.

In short: anyone who wants their blog to monetize like a serious business must be serious about it. The age of overnight internet riches is long gone. Nowadays it takes commitment, dedication and real effort to make good money online. Just like with any other business!

It’s very hard to avoid being impatient while waiting for a new blog to bud. I can see how so many drop off along the way.
